Team Score - 98 points
Top Finisher - Ian Mirtile, 7th/121
Location - Belmont Plateau
The Nyack College Men's Cross Country Team traveled to Belmont Plateau to take part in the 36th Annual Metropolitan Championship, hosted by Philadelphia University, where the Running Warriors would come away with a 2nd place team finish Saturday afternoon. The 8k course also served as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship course preview.
How It Happened:
From a field of 121 runners, Nyack would land two Warriors in the top-15 individual finishers. Sophomores Ian Mirtile (7th: Melbourne, Australia) and Thomas Trott (10th: Frederick, MD) were recognized during post-race awards ceremony for their stellar individual performances. The 2nd place team-finish marks cross country's best final result at the Metropolitan Championship; making history for the men's program.
Also paving the way for the Warriors was junior Mateusz Gacik (Mysliborz, Poland... 22nd) who finished 3rd for the team in 31:05.1, newcomer Zachary Trador (Seminole, FL... 27th) who clocked in a time of 31:43.7 making his collegiate debut running his first 8k race, and Nathaniel Dominy (Christiansburg, VA... 32nd) recording 32:03.7 to round-out Nyack's top-5 scorers.
Franklin Pierce won the team championship with a low score of 28 points while Giancarlo Martines from Chestnut Hill took home the individual crown with a finishing time of 28:01.7.
Nyack Cross Country will take a week off from competition and will resume back to racing on Saturday, September 26th for the Osprey Open hosted by Stockton University. See here for the complete 2015 Men's Cross Country Schedule.
