After an early goal from the Bears, the Warriors were able to score 3 successive goals in the second half to take the lead. Unfortunately, the Bears would tie the game in the last ten minutes of play, leading to two rounds of overtime before the match would be called a draw at 3-3.
How It Happened:
The Warriors were able to contribute 12 shots with 9 shots on goal across 90 minutes of play against the Bears. Sophomore Rebekah Lawler (Lacey, NJ) and freshman Julianna Kranes (Montgomery, NY) topped the Warrior offense with 3 shots; 2 shots were on goal for Lawler and 1 was on goal for Kranes. Freshman Vanessa Séfriou (Quebec, Canada) took 2 shots throughout the match, both of which were on goal and resulted in 2 goals for the Warriors. Senior Krystal Vega (Anaheim Hills, CA) also added a goal for the Warriors as her sole shot of the night. Juniors Katherine Oldfield (Bolton, England), Melanie Garcia (Queens, NY) and senior Brittany Cruz (Suffren, NY) each added 1 shot on the Bears goal for the match.
Bloomfield outshot the Warriors in the first half by three with 7 shots, allowing sophomore keeper Jordan Jansen (Lafayette, NJ) to earn 5 saves before the clock would expire for halftime. Jansen earned her first save in the 6th minute of play, however, the shot was quickly followed allowing the Bears to score the first point of the match in the 7th minute. Though Nyack only had 4 shots for the first half, each one was on goal and had to be stopped by the keeper. The clock would run out for the first half with a score of 1-0 in favor of the Bears.
The Warriors charged into the second half, determined, not just to find a way onto the scoreboard, but to win the game. Sefriou would be the first of the Warriors to score, tying the game 1-1, off of an assist from Lawler. Ten minutes and 2 shots on the Bears goal later, the Warriors would land goal number two through Vega with another assist from Lawler. Immediately following, Sefriou would tag her second goal of the night in the 71st minute off of an assist from senior Danielle Page (London, England). The Warriors were now leading the game 3-1. Unfortunately, the Bears would score twice in the final 6 minutes of play mandating overtime as the score was now tied 3-3.
Round one of overtime only saw one shot from the Bears, missing wide, before the 10 minute clock would expire. Round two saw more action on the net as Jansen recorded 3 saves preventing the Bears from taking the match. The final score would remain a tie 3-3.
Nyack returns to action travelling to play CACC competitor Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, October 24th. The match is scheduled to kick off at 1:00pm before the Men's Soccer match at 3:00pm.
