The Nyack College Warriors volleyball team competed in a home conference match today against the Wilmington University Wildcats. After securing the first game the Warriors were unable to find that spark to win the next three sets, losing to WilmU in four.
In the first set of the match the Warriors came out strong taking WilmU off guard. The Warriors pulled ahead of the Wilcats early in the game with a six point lead. At a score of 12-17 Nyack, the Wildcats began their comeback scoring four points in a row. In the last couple points of the game, the Wildcats caught up to Nyack tieing up the score at 20-20 but the Warriors were able to pull through and secure the win with a final score of 25-23.
The second set of the game started with kills from Kyra Zuhlke and Rachel Medin. The Warriors began to trade points with WilmU until a score of 12-12 when the Wildcats pulled ahead scoring five points in a row. Nyack was unable to bridge the gap and capped at 19 points losing the second set to the Wildcats.
In the beginning of the third set of the match, Nyack pulled ahead by six points but lost this lead halfway through the game. WilmU managed to tie up the score at 18-18 and then slowly pulled ahead of the Warriors. Nyack fought hard for the next point scoring on a back row kill from libero British Dawson. It wasn't until a score of 19-19 that the Warriors trailed behind and lost the set with a final score of 25-20.
In the fourth and final set, WilmU went on a scoring run straight out of the gate winning the first five points of the game. Nyack almost completely lost momentum and fell behind 12 whole points. The set ended with a final score of 25-15 and the Wildcats secured the match.
